Since my arrival as the new minister at Headcorn Baptist Church in September, I have had the privilege of hearing and seeing my favourite aeroplane, the Spitfire, flying in and out of Headcorn aerodrome. The Spitfire was a warplane which helped to win the Battle of Britain but in peacetime one flew over hospitals with a THANK U NHS message on its underwings to say thank you to NHS workers during the Coronavirus pandemic. It fulfilled what it says in Isaiah 2:4 that ‘warplanes will be turned into peace planes.’ This gave me the idea of combining my love of the Spitfire and making model aeroplanes, with my desire along with the church to “share the love of Jesus with people so that they truly come to know him.” So, I purchased some pre-made Spitfire models, removed the guns, repaired, re-painted and stickered them with a message of love.
These were left as a free gift in shops and open areas to be found, with an invite to the church to our Advent and Christmas services. If you found a Spitfire and joined us thank you. If you didn’t find one, a warm welcome still awaits you at Headcorn Baptist Church in 2025. Thanks, and blessings, Pastor Robert.
